IT Odjel Implements the RENATA System at the Zenica-Doboj Canton Ministry of the Interior: A Historic Step Forward in Police Digitalization
The Ministry of the Interior of the Zenica-Doboj Canton has officially launched the implementation of the modern RENATA information system, developed and implemented by IT Odjel. This project represents a major milestone in the modernization of police operations and the enhancement of public safety.
RENATA is an advanced modular system that integrates key police databases and enables automatic license plate recognition, real-time traffic violation detection, and centralized data management. Police officers can access detailed information about a vehicle, its owner, outstanding warrants, and penalties in as little as three seconds, significantly reducing verification time in the field and improving operational efficiency.
Transparency and Public Safety
Every inspection, traffic violation, and police intervention is recorded and documented within the system, providing greater protection for both citizens and police officers. Particular attention has been given to vehicles with foreign license plates, as a significant number of violations committed by foreign drivers had previously gone unpunished.
The cameras installed on police vehicles provide 360-degree video recording, while all footage is automatically archived for a minimum of 15 days. During the first phase of implementation, the Zenica-Doboj Canton Ministry of the Interior equipped police stations with 12 video surveillance systems, 35 fixed License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras, 72 mobile cameras, and 20 specialized tablets for police officers.
Integration of Nine Previously Disconnected Databases
One of RENATA's key advantages is the integration of nine previously disconnected databases into a single unified platform. Instead of performing slow and fragmented checks across multiple applications, police officers now have instant access to all relevant information in real time, reducing the possibility of errors and data manipulation.
An Investment in Safety and the Future
The total value of the project is estimated at approximately BAM 2 million, with around BAM 600,000 worth of equipment and software already implemented. Through this project, the Zenica-Doboj Canton has become a regional pioneer in the digital transformation of the police sector, setting standards that are expected to become common practice throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
